There are those that say Glasgow is rather over subscribed when it comes to burger bars, a sentiment we at SFR tend to disagree with as the majority of them are really rather good.
A bigger gripe from us, is why Glasgow seems to have as many burger restaurants as Kim Kardashian has naked selfies (and still they keep coming).
Why can't anyone else have naked selfies?
Oh no wait that's not the point of my convoluted analogy, sorry lost my train of thought.
Oh yeah, why can't other places have a decent burger place instead of the ubiquitous McKing. Well just very occasionally we stumble across somewhere outside of the big smoke that serves up awesome burger goodness and Monterey Jacks in Stirling is one such place.
Tucked away in the Old Arcade away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping streets, you need to go looking for Jacks. When you do you'll find a relaxed little diner offering a great choice of food and cheerful professional service.
There is a great choice of burgers, from the simple to the spectacular, but if you're unsure what to choose the house burger is as good a place to start as any. There is also Hot Dogs, Pizza and Soup & a sandwich if you fancied a smaller option.
Service was pretty slick with extra drinks offered when we finished our first round and checks made that our meals were ok when they arrived, which they very much were.
Freshly cooked to order there is bound to be a wait, but it's not excessive, this means of course the burgers and sides come out hot.
Desserts are weird and wonderful with a Pies and Ice Cream section that let's you pick and choose your combination. Great for those with a sweet tooth!
If I were to find fault it is with the shakes, milk and syrup just doesn't cut it. Yup they are only £2.50 each, but given how good everything else is, come on MJ charge us more for a full on ice cream shake, please!!
Prices are reasonable, with plenty of great deals. Burgers are 2 for £11, sides 3 for £7 and students get 10% off.
We like Monterey Jacks a lot and will definitely return as we try to work through the whole menu. A Big Jack vs Macho Man burger challenge perhaps...
